Willie Marlowe Opening Reception

The public is invited to the Arkell Museum at Canajoharie for an opening reception for an exhibition of regional artists’ work on Friday, April 1, from 5 to 7pm.  The exhibition features the work of Capital District artist Willie Marlowe.

“We are thrilled to have this dynamic survey of Marlowes work exhibited at the Arkell,” said Leah LaFera, Head of Library Services and Chair of the Community Gallery Committee. “Our community galleries are bursting to life with her bold use of color and clever compositions.”

This traveling survey of Marlowes work from 1977-2010 was created by the Opalka Gallery, The Sage Colleges of NY in Albany .  The show will feature over forty abstract paintings, many with references to ancient art and archeology.

Willie Marlowe has shown paintings in solo and invitational exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad.  Her work is included in museum, university, corporate, and private collections.  She received her MFA form the University of Idaho and taught painting and drawing in the Department of Visual Arts, The Sage College of Albany and taught in two of the Sage College ’s international studies programs.

The opening reception on April 1 is free, as is admission to the Canajoharie Library and  Arkell Museum ’s Community Galleries. Marlowe’s work will remain on view through May 25.
