Mohawk Valley Eye Care in Canajoharie N.Y. offers a variety of services for men, women, and children  including eye exams, contact lens fittings and minor eye glass repair.  The office has a small on site lab for finishing glasses.

Gone is the day of the cold clinical optometrist office.  When you walk into the office of Carole A. Balfe O.D it’s like visiting an old friend.  Her enthusiastic personality is contagious and you are greeted by her dog Chloe at the door.

Carole Balfe O.D. is a local inspiration.  Born in Palatine Bridge, she attended Canajoharie High School and received her BA in Biology at Hartwick College in Oneonta NY.  She then completed her education at New England College of Optometry in Boston MA.

She resides in the town of Canajoharie with her three children, who all attend Canajoharie schools and are very active in sports and music.

Active in her community, Carol created the Michael J. Balfe Memorial Golf Tournament, raising scholarships for local young men and women for continuing education in the SUNY System, and has served on the Canajoharie Board of Education for 6 years.

Carol’s inspiration came at the early age of twelve when she first visited her eye doctor. She was fascinated by her experience and didn’t realize that she couldn’t see until she put on her first pair glasses. The first in her large family to get glasses, she knew from that day forward that great eye care was her passion.

When asked what her greatest joy is she replied, “When children who come in and can’t see put on their first pair of glasses and can see its amazing.  Parents don’t know how bad their children see sometimes.”  In fact, according to the American Optometric Association 1 in 4 children have vision problems. Many go undetected by parents and teachers, and according to the American Eye-Q survey 39% of parents don’t realize behavioral problems are an indication that a child’s vision may very well be impaired.

Carol A. Balfe O.D. has been helping people see better for 17 years and has been at her current location at 70 Erie Blvd. in Canajoharie for over four years now. She offers a full line of eyewear including several designer glasses including; Coach, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Nautica, Airlock, Nike, Flexon, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nine West, Tommy Hilfiger, Gant, Sketchers, Seventeen, Bongo and others.
