Romance at the Perthshire

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Love was in the air Saturday night at the Perthshire in Perth N.Y.  for their dinner & dancing Valentines event.  The large luxurious waterfront dining room quickly filled with couples ready to enjoy a delicious roast beef & chicken dinner.

Entertainment was provided by Edward T. Clifford who performed a variety of music from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Barry Manilo,  Englebert Humperdink,  and many others with a class & style that is remarkable.  The atmosphere was warm & inviting as “The Human Jukebox” (as Edward T. Clifford is known as) wandered through the dining tables serenading the guests.

After dinner the dance floor heated up as couple’s danced the night away, smiling laughing & dancing cheek to cheek.  If you were brave enough to bundle up & step outside (as we did) the grounds at the Perthshire are magical.  Snow glistened on the gazebo & the bridge over the frozen pond is enchanting.

It was a wonderful time & I hope this becomes an annual event.  Please enjoy the photos of the evening.

Canal Street Pub – Photos

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Last Sunday, December 20th 2009, Alan and Lisa of the Canal Street Pub in Fort Plain held a party to show their appreciation towards their customers and employees.  So, of course, we had to stop by!

When I got there, the place was already packed, Nancy and Phil were playing on stage, and Alan and Lisa were making the rounds through the crowd. The pool table was set up with a great spread, from tuna salad pitas with roasted red peppers, ham and cheese, sausage bread, veggie bread, and shrimp cocktail.

I had a great time visiting with some good friends, good food, and good music.

If you haven’t stopped in yet, I strongly recommend you check them out. They are located at 9 Canal Street in Fort Plain. The food is made fresh daily, they have 8 beers on tap, and over 30 bottles to choose from. Each Thursday is a friendly in-house pool tournament, only $5 to play.

Click here for directions, hours and their menu.

windmilldiner-002

As you probably heard by now, The Windmill Diner on Route 30 in Amsterdam has shut it’s doors for the last time late Monday night.

I remember the old building before the fateful fire years ago, and watching the new building arise from the chared remains. This was a favorite local hangout, a popular stop for visitors to our area and, many times, the last stop in Amsterdam as people headed up to the Great Sacandaga Lake and the Adirondack Park.

I will miss the owners and the friendly staff and hope they all have prosperous new futures ahead.

Many memories were had at this diner. One that I remember fondly was the time I sat at a table in the window with my wife, looking at the moving truck in the parking lot as we took a break from moving to our new home. My wife loved the Greek Lasagna. I was always partial to Chicken Cordon Bleu.

What memories do you have from the Windmill? What was your favorite? What will you miss the most? Share a comment…
