Canal Street Pub – Photos

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Last Sunday, December 20th 2009, Alan and Lisa of the Canal Street Pub in Fort Plain held a party to show their appreciation towards their customers and employees.  So, of course, we had to stop by!

When I got there, the place was already packed, Nancy and Phil were playing on stage, and Alan and Lisa were making the rounds through the crowd. The pool table was set up with a great spread, from tuna salad pitas with roasted red peppers, ham and cheese, sausage bread, veggie bread, and shrimp cocktail.

I had a great time visiting with some good friends, good food, and good music.

If you haven’t stopped in yet, I strongly recommend you check them out. They are located at 9 Canal Street in Fort Plain. The food is made fresh daily, they have 8 beers on tap, and over 30 bottles to choose from. Each Thursday is a friendly in-house pool tournament, only $5 to play.

Looking at Lights in CanPal – Photos

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

canpallights 010Each year we like to take one night to go look at other peoples Christmas lights and decorations, and this year is no exception.

We loaded up the car, got the Christmas music playing, and pulled out our map of the Canajoharie-Palatine Bridge Chamber Decorating Contest contestants and headed out on our way.

It’s an old family tradition of mine, started by my parents, that we would drive around and give a rating of each house based on a 1-10 scale, so we were well prepped in judging for the contest.

We drove leisurely from house to house, including a lot that were not participating in the contest, but still had beautifully decorated homes.

Broadalbin-Perth PTSO ‘Breakfast with Santa’

Monday, December 7th, 2009

As you probably read here, Santa made his way to Broadalbin-Perth TLC last Saturday morning, where they had a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice, milk and coffee, a “Santa Land” set up for kids to do crafts and musical guest Gary Van Slyke.

Dave Wallin-Eddy was there and was kind enough to share his photos of the event.

Toy Jam II Photos

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Saturday was a cool, brisk day. On my way to Toy Jam II, featuring the band 13 Yards To Victory. I parked on Main Street in Amsterdam. After a short visit to The Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Main Street Billiards, we were walking on our way to the mall and a light snow started falling, and Christmas Music was heard coming from the New Paris Shop. Oh, the holidays are quick approaching!

Entering the mall, we saw the Montgomery County SPCA having their Pet Photos with Santa Event. They had a couple of their cats there for people to visit, a micro-chipping for cats and dogs, baked goods and a wide array of pet treats and toys for holiday gift giving.

Elves Night Out Photos

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Elves Night Out 2009 was a great success.  The weather was warm, the stars were bright and the Christmas spirit was felt by everyone.

Around the memorial tree people of all ages gathered to sing carols and remember the brave fallen soldiers.   The East Hill Elementary Choir lead the caroling with voices of angels and the Canajoharie High School Brass Band provided the accompaniment.

People swarmed the town streets and children were scurrying from one business to another to locate the hidden elves, tugging their families along in the scavenger hunt.  (more…)

Landis Arboretum Photos

Monday, August 31st, 2009

If you have never been to the Landis Arboretum in Esperence, you are missing one of the greatest natural sites of the area. The Landis Arboretum is a public garden overlooking historic Schoharie Valley, a 548-acre site stretching into both Schoharie and Montgomery Counties.

Forty acres are developed with plantings of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials from around the world. The remainder of the property consists of natural areas, woodlands, wetlands, more than 8 miles of trails, and open fields reminiscent of the former Oak Nose Farm, homestead of founder Fred Lape.

Here are some amazing photos of things you can see at the Landis Arboretum posted on flickr by greyhound dad.

perthfishderby09-006Last Sunday was the Annual Reid Hill Sportsman Club fishing derby, held at the Perthshire in Perth, NY.

It was cool and breezy, but the kids came out to try their luck and to win some prizes.

Everyone enjoyed free hotdogs, chips and drinks, ice cream, and of course, fishing.

Welcome!

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Years ago I realized that there is a lot to do in this area. The problem was finding out what was going on. I thought if there was an easily accessible source for finding entertainment, how much easier it would be for people to enjoy it all.

This website is a culmination of input from many area residents, volunteers and business owners on how to fill this need.

First and foremost, we will be covering area events and activities. The main focus here will be area recreation and entertainment.

Another part of this site will be arts and history. This area is so full of creatives, from painters to potters, graphics and jewelers, from local hobbyists to world renown craftsmen.

The variety of eating establishments is amazing. Mom & Pop diners, elegant fine dining, ethnic restaurants, and all in-between. We will work on publicizing these eateries, cooks, and chefs. Bringing you menus and special events and entertainment held at these establishments.

Our main focus is on you, the readers. That’s why this will be an interactive forum, where you can comment on each article. A message board for you to carry on your own conversations under various topics, or any random topic you want to discuss. Sign up today!

We also offer FREE classified ads to help you sell your stuff, to give stuff away, and advertise your garage sales, all for FREE. Because this site is here for YOU.

Be sure to check the calendar often, where local events will be listed for easy plan making.

Feedback is not only welcome, but encouraged! Comments, suggestions, and anything you would like to point out, drop us a line.

We look forward to serving you.
