Marching Rams Take Top Honors

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

The Amsterdam Marching Rams came home with gasdtop honors from a marching band competition in Virginia.

The Rams earned first-place honors in both parades they marched in during the 82nd annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester.

The Marching Rams participated in two parades. The first on was on Friday, where they marched in the Firefighters’ Parade, the oldest in the county.  In that parade they took the Fire Chief’s Award, the top award, in a competition of 12 other bands. The group performed “Mambo Beat,” a tribute to Tito Puente.

On Saturday, they participated in the Grand Feature Parade, where they performed “Sousa’s Classics,” a medley of traditional marching music by John Philip Sousa. The Rams received the Lions’ Award, the top honor in that parade as well.
