The Walter Elwood Museum of the Mohawk Valley is proud to announce we have two new spring exhibits on display in the Riverfront Center and in the foyer of Amsterdam City Hall.
The exhibition at the Riverfront Center is in the kiosk on the Lower level in front of the Cranesville Block offices.  It features artifacts celebrating the season of spring. It includes vintage hats, fans, parasols, and gloves as well as birds, bird nests and eggs, pressed flowers and more from Walter Elwood’s original collections.  Please stop down and view the exhibit and sign our comment sheet and let us know what you think and what you would like to see next season on display.
The exhibit in the foyer of Amsterdam City Hall outside the Clerk’s office has also been recently revamped for public enjoyment.  The display now features Amsterdam Industries: Past & Present.  This includes artifacts from Fowne’s, Mohawk Carpet Mills, Amsterdam Broom Company, Kellogg’s Linseed Factory and many more memories of Amsterdam industries.
The Walter Elwood Museum (WEM) of the Mohawk Valley is the City of Amsterdam’s only museum open year round.  The Museum provides educational programming and historical tours and events to children and families in our community.  The WEM is now open for tours at our new site in the Guy Park Manor at Lock 11 along the Mohawk River. Please stop by and see several of our newly set up display rooms including new displays such as our military display and children’s toy room as well as old favorites like the Natural History “Animal Room” and Victorian Room.
In conclusion, do not miss our April Break Camp Days coming soon, April 6th- 8th for children to enjoy during their vacation week. Check out our website at www.walterelwoodmuseum.org for more information or call us at 843-5151.
