Can You See What I See?If you’ve ever wondered who the creative genius is behind those popular children’s books I Spy, A Drop of Water, Optical Tricks, and Can You See What I See?, you don’t want to miss the Arkell Museum at Canajoharie’s Walter Wick Family Day and Exhibition Opening on Sunday, November 15, from 12:30 to 5pm.

“We’ve been looking forward to this show all year, and it’s finally here,” said Andy Albertson, Curator of Education & Public Programs at the Arkell Museum.  “This family day is a chance for local Walter Wick fans to visit the museum, meet the author and see larger-than-life versions-and some three dimensional models-of his best photographic illustrations in person.”

The Museum will open at 12:30pm on November 15 for families to explore the new exhibition, “Walter Wick:  Games, Gizmos and Toys in the Attic,” organized by the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut.

At 2pm, Wick will deliver a family-friendly presentation revealing how he creates his magical photographic illustrations.

Following Wick’s talk, at 3pm, the author will signs books and talk with fans.

perseverenceFrom 12:30 to 4:30pm, Cobleskill “sculptographer” Tony Murray will work with visitors to create sculptures using only recycled materials. Walter Wick Family Day coincides with the display of Murray’s “Out Of this World” photography show in the Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library’s Community Galleries, on view through November 29.  Murray’s “sculptography” combines recycling, found objects and photography in a unique presentation appealing to both children and adults.

Walter Wick Family Day is free to museum members.  Local residents are asked to make a $2 donation.  All others pay regular museum admission of $7 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens (with children 11 and under free).

“Walter Wick: Games, Gizmos and Toys in the Attic” will remain on view through February 15, 2010.
