The Fort Plain Community Activity Council is planning a three day “Street Fair Days” celebration on May 14-15 and 16, 2009.
There will be carnival rides, craft fair and non-profit booths in the Haslett Park/Legion Street Parking lot area. Come and enjoy a fried dough, try your hand at a game of skill or ride the Ferris wheel.
Music will be provided on the newly renovated bandstand all weekend. On Thursday night at 5 pm will be the annual Pizza Eating Contest followed by the Fort Plain High School Stage Band performing at 7 pm. On Friday at 4 pm we will have a new music venue called “Rock Band 2 Competition” where you can form your own band and play in front of a live crowd using the x-box 360 game. Then at 7 pm the Rusty Mento Blue River band will perform. On Saturday the Rock Band 2 Competition continues starting at 2 pm followed by the County Line Rebels Band at 5 pm.
At 1pm on Saturday, there is a large four division parade. In the parade will be the Mohawk Central School Marching Band, the Shriner’s Drum and Bugle Corps, the Shriner’s Clowns and the Fyfes and Drumms of Olde Saratoga corps. Also in the parade will be floats and area Fire Departments . Following the parade will be the First Annual Dog Show Competition on Canal Street. Local dog owners will hope to take home the prize of Top Dog in town.
Also all weekend, there will be a Village Wide Garage Sale. This location map will be available at the Haslett Park information booth. The downtown merchants will be out on the sidewalks with their merchandise offering many street sale bargains. For the early risers, there is a pancake breakfast at the bed and breakfast on Canal Street.
On Saturday and Sunday at the Fort Plain Museum there will be the “Culloden Living History Weekend”. This is a reenactment focusing on the Battle of Culloden which was a key event in the Scottish rebellion of 1745 fought in the United Kingdom. Come to Fort Plain on Saturday for the parade and stay for the reenactment battle in the afternoon.

All I found was this article:

    http://www.wktv.com/news/local/19079604.html

“Hurteau was charged with one count of sexual abuse in the first degree – sex contact with a person less than 11 years old, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.”

Check the link above, it has his photo.

It is horrific that this man did what he did to an innocent child, and that he worked for a company that positioned him around children. However, It does not take away the fact that this is going to be great fun for the community & children. There are always people out there that can harm your children, wherever you go & it is the parents responsibility to make sure you protect your children in public places & keep them close to you. When I was a child & lived in another State, there was a circus that came every year & they were all gypsies. We always went & had great fun but my parents warned us & kept us close. Every fair, city or state is filled with carnies. If you did a background check on them I’m sure you would find that many of them have prior convictions of one sort or another.
Did this guy even have a prior sex conviction? I don’t blame Wheelock Rides, if anyone(besides the offender), I blame the uncle who brought the guy to his home & left the child unattended in the other room. Bottom line, watch your children!

I blame wheelock rides no back ground checks, and have been known to hire anyone off the streets these days, even bigger companys tend to shy away from poor old wheelock, hes got to his act together, and other famiys on that show including the daughter have left there kids with Kevin Hurteau i wonder what happen then, Kevin Hurteau is known to have done this befor in the southern states, Kevin Hurteau is a puke a 39 yr old loser chasing young men and girls, that person would never last on a show that does criminal back ground checks, It wheelock rides that wont the the Dime to conduct them, if he did none of this would have never happen

I have to agree with some but the bottom line is i went over there tonight, and i wouldnt let that company set up at a state prison. let alone a family event older rides, that need painting, and the help that was over there if it was actually wheelock rides, those people need a bath also they looked like a bunch of convicts standing around like they was lost, sad to hear but this company either needs to sell out. or just start buying better rides plus games, I myself wouldnt let that Ride company with in 20 feet of the great decent people of ST Johnsville, i cant still beleive they let them have there carnival at the ball field like they do here in Town

Whoever is writing all this trash really needs to get a life or MAYBE A JOB. The man that was FALSELY accused of violating the young boy was NOT convicted. In fact THE CASE WAS THROWN OUT. He was NOT even put on probation. Whoever is writing all this trash is clearly using this website to post false info about the Wheelocks who have had a great reputation since 1946. They’re obviously still in business for a reason.

  • john says:

Well Lynn hate to break it to you he was found Guilty of a charge and he envoked his 1st Offender rights. and he is on Probation, and because he used his 1st offender rights. that case is for his eyes only and is not public. so thats how much you realy know about the SEX CRIME CASE. he plead to a lesser charge and put on Probation for up too 36 months

  • jlovebug says:

Well he should have got more than that. Tougher laws need to be put in place for child offenses. Expecially because I beleive these people can NOT rehabilitate. I check the watchdog site all the time that is on this website. Thank you Mohawkvalleyguide for including it on your website.
