Saturday & Sunday July 11th & 12th 2009
The hamlet of Fort Hunter will be hosting the 25th annual Canal Days Celebration on Saturday, July 11 and on Sunday, July 12, from 11:00 am
to 4:00 pm, both days. Admission and parking are free.This community-wide event is old fashion family fun. Canal Days is dedicated
to the historical significance of the Erie Canal and its impact on New York State.
Canal Days 2009 will include live entertainment, sponsored by the Friends of Schoharie Crossing. Bill McGrath as the Legendary Elvis will
be performing through Saturday of the event and the County Line Rebels will perform between 11:30 and 3:30 on Sunday.
The Friends of Schoharie Crossing is also sponsoring a chicken barbecue on Sunday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Dinners include ½ chicken, potato,
corn on cob, beverage and dessert. Other food, including hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, pizza, fried dough, and ice cream will be available
on both days.
There will be a number of educational displays set up under the Big Tent and around the site on Saturday, including Circuit Spinsters’ spinning
and weaving demonstrations, Hugh Farley’s Women of the Mohawk Valley exhibit and the Fulmont Community Action Agency WIC program. Vendors
will also be selling their wares and craft items.
JINX the clown will be making appearances throughout Saturday and Sunday in the carnival game area. Carnival games are only 50 cents to play.
There will be a silent auction ongoing from 10:00 to 3:30 both days of the event at the Visitor Center. Also each day guided walking tours of
the Erie Canal structures will be available at noon.
Canal Days 2009 also includes the Tri-county Old Time Power Association’s “Field Days”. Demonstrations of antique agricultural and
household machinery will take place throughout both days of the event.
