June’s Art Night will be highlighting our local artists at multiple locations in Schenectady. Some of the featured venues are located at the Schenectady Museum, The Historic Stockade, Upper Union Street, Jay Street, Working Gallery Studios, 440 Arts Center, Proctors, City Hall, and much, much more.

Art Night Schenectady celebrates their 3rd Anniversary this week!

If you haven’t made it to an Art Night yet, this is your chance to celebrate local art and businesses in the downtown Schenectady area!

“Art Night” aims to introduce a wider audience to the unique vitality of the Arts, restaurants, and businesses that Schenectady has to offer. “Art Night” promotes interest in the arts by making it accessible, thereby strengthening the arts and business communities in Schenectady.

Locations for Art Night Schenectady include Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium, Proctor’s Theatre, City Hall, and various art galleries and studios, cafes and shops. A total of 27 locations this week will celebrate the arts of the area. For a full listing of locations and events, click here.

Just a reminder, the ‘I Love Sharon Springs’ photo contest starts accepting pictures tomorrow, with the final day next Friday, April 30th.

A Photo Show for the Fun of it!

Being held by the Village Hall Gallery, 187 Main Street, Sharon Springs, NY.

Show us Sharon Springs through your eyes. Open to any and everyone; young & old, resident or not. Take a photograph of something you love about Sharon Springs, put it in a frame and it’s ready for the show.

The photos will be judged by a panel of aesthetically astute jurors.

A reception will be held on Friday, May 20th from 5-7pm.

Photo Guidelines:

All photos should be taken within the last year.

One photo entry per person.

Deliver the photo to The Village Hall Gallery April 23rd through April 30th during gallery hours:

Thursday-Saturday 10-6
Sunday-Monday 10-4

The photo should be framed and ready to hang, no larger than 16″x20″

The Show is open to everyone, any age, resident or not.

All work must be picked up between June 3rd-7th.

Electric City Boogaloo: An Iconic Art Show Plugged into Schenectady’s Eclectic, Electric Grid.

Electric City Boogaloo is a collaboration of work by husband and wife artists Vincent and Fran Giordano. The show explores innovation and whimsical constructs within popular culture.

This month, The Gallery of New York Folk Art is featuring an exhibit featuring the work of Denise Allen.

Denise is a folk artist and master craftswoman from Palatine Bridge, NY. She has been featured nationally and internationally for her one-of-a-kind textured artwork that predominately features themes of African-American colonial life and country living.

Her art consists of prints, dolls and story cloths.

She has recently unveiled her latest piece, a 9-11 story cloth that will be housed at the 9-11 memorial in New York City.

The Gallery of New York Folk Art is located at 133 Jay Street in Schenectady, NY.

You are invited to a reception for two American Art exhibitions, American Tonalism: Paintings of Poetry and Soul, and Picturing Women: American Artists’ Images of Women 1780’s-1940,developed from the remarkable Arkell Museum and Arkell Foundation Collections.

The evening reception includes music by the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, gallery talks, wine and hors d’oeuvres.

The public is invited to an opening reception for a special exhibition of Canajoharie Central School District students’ artwork on Friday, February 5th 2010, from 5 to 7pm.

The exhibition featuring the work of elementary, middle and high school students will remain on display through March 28.

“Forming community/school connections is very important for art education,” said Canajoharie Middle School art teacher Michelle Egelston. “Having the opportunity to display student art work at the Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library is so wonderful for my students and their families.”

Canajoharie High School art teacher Kathy VanLoan said her students are also looking forward to the show. “My students are thrilled at the prospect of having their work displayed at such a prestigious facility,” said VanLoan. (more…)
