Harlem Superstars Comedy Basketball is Coming to Johnstown

Superstars-basketballThe Harlem Superstars Comedy Basketball Team is coming to Johnstown to play the Johnstown Dream Team for some fun and to share a message with area students.

The game will be played on Tuesday, March 2nd in the Johnstown High School gymnasium beginning at 7pm. 

The Harlem Superstars message to students covers anti-drugs and alcohol, stay in school, do your homework, listen to your parents & teachers, peer pressure, building self-esteem & building moral character.

The event is sponsored by the Knox PTSA which shares these same values and concerns for our students.  This message will be shared at an afternoon assembly to be held at each of the elementary schools and at the Knox Junior High School. 

The game will be played in the evening against the Johnstown Dream Team which is made up of Johnstown Faculty, administration and Community and led by Johnstown Varsity Basketball Coach Scott Hale.

The 5th Annual Adirondack Outdoorsman Show takes place at the Johnstown Moose Club (109 South Comrie Ave/Rte 30A) on Saturday February 20th (10am-6pm) & Sunday February 21st (10am-5pm).

The show will be geared towards the tastes of Hunters, Fisherman and Outdoors Enthusiasts, with Exhibits containing items for sale pertaining to: hunting & fishing gear/supplies, guns, archery, trapping, boating, camping, hiking, snow shoeing, guides & charter services, taxidermy, snowmobiling, collectable knives, antique hunting & fishing gear, wildlife art & books and Adirondack Furniture.

In addition, many featured guests, authors and industry experts are scheduled to be on hand throughout the weekend giving seminars and discussing Outdoor & Hunting subjects with attendees. (more…)

Johnstown’s 7th Annual Holiday Parade

825650_familyThe City of Johnstown will have the 7th Annual Holiday Parade as an early kickoff to the holiday season tomorrow night. This year the parade route will be starting on Madison Avenue and ending at South Chase Street, and the parade will be a Disney Theme.

Each year the parade attempts to raise money for the area with fundraising, donations and entry fees in the parade. The proceeds are used for Johnstown and Gloversville school districts to help defray the cost of field trips for less fortunate students.

Craft Fair

1067716__1_mooseThe Johnstown Moose Family Center will be having a craft fair and it is Open to the Public. Come see local crafts made by local artists and craftmen, and get a jump start on holiday shopping with original gifts!
The Kitchen will be open serving; Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, French Fries, Onion Rings, Mozzarella Sticks and Chicken Tenders.
In Lieu of Admission Fee please bring a non-perishable food item for our local food bank.

Tri County Art Grant Seminars

1008885_oil_color_on_paletteThe Tri-County Arts Council (administrative offices at 108 Union St., Cobleskill) has released the dates of the remaining DEC grant seminars. These informational seminars are mandatory for any individual artist or group considering applying for a NYSCA decentralization grant.  These grants have been awarded to many local organizations and have help make events such as The Blenheim Bridge Artwalk, Mettawee River Theatre and Colonial Family Field Days at the Old Fort Johnson possible.

The October Seminar Dates are:

Fall 2009 Adirondack Outdoorsman Show

adkshowTwin Cities Sports Promotions announces plans for the Fall 2009 Adirondack Outdoorsman Show & Exposition, to take place at the Johnstown Moose Club Grounds on Saturday September 12th (10am-6pm) & Sunday September 13th (9am-6pm). The Grounds are located at 109 South Comrie Avenue / Route 30A North in Johnstown (just 5 minutes from NYS Thruway Exit 28).

The show will be geared towards the tastes of Hunters, Fisherman, Boaters and Outdoors Enthusiasts. Exhibits containing items for sale pertaining to: hunting & fishing gear/supplies, guns, fly fishing, archery, trapping, boating, camping, hiking, snow shoeing, guides & charter services, taxidermy, snowmobiling, 4-Wheeling, collectible knives, antique hunting & fishing gear, wildlife art & books and Adirondack Furniture. The show has been expanded to include many new vendors & activities spread throughout the club’s grounds which will include a Trout Pond, Rock Climbing Wall, Seminar Tents (seminar schedule to be announced), Ax & Knife Throwing Demonstrations (and learn how to do it yourself), and several other events/competitions (to be announced).
In addition, many featured guests and industry experts are scheduled to be on hand throughout the weekend.   (more…)
