Canal Clean Sweep

The 5th Annual Canal Clean Sweep is coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 16, 17 and 18, come be a part of it!

Yankee Hill LocksIn recognition of Earth Day and in advance of the 185th consecutive navigation season on the NYS Canal System and the summer tourism season, the NYS Canal Corporation, in partnership with Parks & Trails New York, the Environmental Facilities Corporation and the NYS Consumer Protection Board, once again is encouraging community groups and municipalities to participate in this “spring cleaning” event along the Canal System and the Canalway Trail.

“Bike Path Clean-up in Fort Plain”

Saturday, 4/17, 9:00 – 11:00 am

The Fort Plain Activities Council, Friends of Fort Plain and Fort Plain Pacers will clean up along the bike path between from the Lock 15 area to Canajoharie, about 5 miles.

Meeting place is the intersection of Rt. 80 and the bike path at the plaza in Fort Plain

“Parrinos Protect and Preserve” (Canajoharie)

The Parrino family, friends and neighbors will help beautify and protect the bike trail.

“Troop 2317 Canajoharie Riverfront Clean Sweep”

Saturday, 4/17 1:00 pm

Girl Scout Troop 2317 and their families to clean up the Canajoharie Riverfront. Bring your own labeled shovel, rake and gloves if you have them! Rain date is Sunday 4/18 at 1 pm.

Location to meet is the Riverfront Gazebo in Canajoharie

Explore the Capital Region’s rich history of locomotives!

Visit the Schenectady Museum and Suites-Bueche Planetarium and see models created by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO), model trains dating back to the 1910s, and color and black and white photographs from the Museum’s GE and ALCO photograph collections.

See iconic images such as tug-of-war contests between electric and steam locomotives, streamlined locomotives, and selections from a collection of rare GE color locomotive slides from the late 1930s.

runforyourlifeThe Schenectady Firefighters will be hosting their First Annual Run For Your Life Fundraiser to benefit the American Heart Association on Saturday, March 27th 2010.

There will be a 5K race, a free Kids Fun Run, 3 Person Relay and Team Scoring.  Awards will be given for the top 3 overall male and female participants.

The fee is a $20 early registration, or $25 registration after March 17th.

T-shirts will be given to the first 300 registrants.
